But what really matters is that I lost my dad and best friend to cancer.
I got the news about my dad when I was in retail skin care sales. I dropped everything. While he was in the hospital, all I wanted to do was just make him feel better but I didn’t know how.
When he passed, I decided I needed a change so I decided to go to school. I had heard about a salon in Arizona that cut wigs and did haircuts for cancer patients and decided to see if there was like this in the spa industry that I could get involved with.. I found an oncology esthetics program that taught estheticians how to give safe facials to those going through cancer therapies as well as address their unique concerns. I quickly got certified and began offering free treatments to cancer patients.
Then my best friend got sick.
I gathered all my stuff together and went
to the hospital to give her a facial.
She was beaming the entire time..
The nurse walked in while I was cleansing her skin, and I thought she would make me stop.
But she was so excited that I was pampering my best friend that she pulled the bed away from the wall to give me better access to perform my facial. My friend had the sweetest smile on her face the entire time!
This just confirmed that this was the direction I needed to go.
I started making plans for my spa and just before she died, my best friend told me she knew I would make it happen.
My best friend passed in 2012, and Pink Door was born in 2013. I formed this non profit because I saw how cancer not only ravages the body, but also the finances.
Neither my dad nor my best friend would have been able to afford a facial. Both lost everything.
That’s why I work on a donation basis only.
Currently, we offer oncology facial services to help anyone dealing with the effects of cancer and its treatments. We hope to add more services in the near future.
We work on a donation basis only and will never turn away anyone due to financial hardship.
